John and Sandra Pagliero

Emilio and Ana Pacheco see the importance of assistive technology (AT) every day. Their son, Joel, who has physical and intellectual disabilities, is included in school, has access throughout his house, and joins his family on outings to church, restaurants, the park and movies through the use of AT. Joel has hearing aids, glasses, a communication device, a wheelchair, home modifications, a modified van, and an adapted bicycle.

The family moved from Puerto Rico so that Joel could have the services he needs. In fact, Emilio and Ana work for Vision for Equality, an organization that helps people with disabilities and their families access the supports and services they need. At Vision, the couple often refers individuals to PATF for assistance in purchasing the AT they need. “This program is one of our more valuable resources,” Emilio explained. “As advocates, Ana and I need to know what is available for people in need. We are telling people that they can get assistance from PATF. Their process is quick, easy and the staff is really helpful.”
